Battle of the Mattresses. Who Will Be the Winner?

Just like with any other industry in the home furniture sector, the mattress industry is constantly improving.

Years ago, you had to spend big bucks to get the mattress with the best features. Today most online mattress brands have created their own version of a great mattress at a good price.

For many people, making the decision to purchase a new mattress is a big commitment, it requires both financial planning and time.

The following are the 3 best brands for people who want to buy an affordable mattress online at a good price in Canada: Polysleep/ Casper /Endy.

the table shows the different features

In this article, we will compare our Polysleep mattress vs two of our strongest competitors.

POLYSLEEP VS CASPER*

Casper is a US based e-commerce company that sells their own mattress online. The mattress has 4 layers of foam:

  1. 1.5” Open-Cell Foam
  2. 1.5” Responsive Memory Foam
  3. 1.5” Adaptive Transition Foam
  4. 5” Durable Support Foam

Casper designed this mattress to create a responsive but contouring feel for sleepers.

It has the weakest edge support you will experience between the two brands (IMAGE 1). You will feel it sink when sitting directly on the edge, standing in the middle or laying on the side. On the contrary, our extra supporting side rails, being the only ones on the market to have added side rails to our mattress, result in having more edge support than the average. With only 3” of comfort layers (the 2 top), the Casper mattress feels unsupportive. Heavier sleepers can easily sink through these layers.

Let’s go deeper to understand the problems with the support offered by their mattress.

The ILD (Indentation load deflection) of their second layer and third layer is between 13-15. We have a ILD of 30. The ILD correspond with the firmness of a mattress. The higher the ILD, the more support you get because the mattress gets firmer. The first layer should not have a high ILD as the top layer is for comfort, freshness and ease of movement (VIDEO).

On the other hand, Polysleep created a one of a kind mattress with its ventilated hybrid foam topper, soft support transition layer, high-density foam base and extra firm supporting side-rails. The hybrid foam makes our mattress unique as it is a viscoelastic foam with the properties of a high-end memory foam. The viscoelastic foam will identify the pressure points, lower the temperature and the firmness of those points in seconds while contouring your body. Our (Polysleep) 3” top layer vs 1.5”(for Casper) makes the Polysleep mattress a much more comfortable mattress with a soft feel. The top layer should be at least 2“to not be able to feel the other layers of your mattress (IMAGE 2).

In addition, not only did we create a liquid-repellent cover in case an accident happens, but we also added mesh on the bottom of the cover to make the foam breathable. Any manufacturer of foam will tell you that foam should breath to enhance its properties.

Another important aspect is the PRICE. We all know that buying a mattress is a financial burden. So why pay more for a lower quality mattress? The price of our mattress is cheaper than the Casper: $995 vs 1175$ for a queen size mattress. You should be paying the right amount of money for the right product. Casper is a more expensive mattress for the debatable enhanced engineering you get.

Made in Canada: we are very proud to say that we succeed in creating a product that is 100% Made in Canada. From the creation of the foams to the assembly of the layers of the Poly Mattress and the manufacturing of the cover. Made by Canadians for Canadians.

POLYSLEEP VS ENDY*

Endy is a Canadian based e-commerce company that sells their own mattress online. The mattress has 3 layers of foam:

  1. 2” Gel-Infused Foam
  2. 3” Transitional foam
  3. 5” high density foam

Endy claims to have designed a finely crafted memory foam mattress.

The quality of the foam is lesser than Polysleep. The first layer has a memory foam that takes time to come back to its original place (VIDEO).  A good quality memory foam mattress should move with you rather than against you, preventing the feeling of being sucked back into your old position as you try to move into another one. Instead you should feel an almost floating, weightless feeling as pressure on your body is relieved.

The density of the 3 different layers of the Endy mattress are also lesser than its competitors: the higher the density, the better the quality and durability of the foam:

  1. 2” Gel-Infused Foam: 3lb/ft3
  2. 3” Transitional foam: 1.8 lb/ft3
  3. 5” high density foam: 1.8lb/ft3

We use higher quality foams, this will yield to greater longevity. Our top foam is a hybrid foam which is known as the top quality in terms of memory foam. It’s a viscoelastic foam that reacts like and high-end memory foam. The viscoelastic foam will identify the pressure points and lower the temperature (IMAGE 2).

People who are looking for average to above average firmness may be disappointed by the indentation offered by the Endy. The Endy mattress is more soft than medium firm.

One clear weakness with the Endy mattresss is the lack of edge support (IMAGE 1/ VIDEO). The edges are structurally weak and it’s easy to see someone rolling out of the bed. You will experience a sinkage when sitting directly on the edge, standing in the middle or laying on the side. It might be an important consideration for some people: that’s why we decided to add supporting side rails on our mattress, which result in much more edge support than the average.

In addition, the Endy mattress has been known to periodically have a strong chemical odor when you open the box that can stay a couple of days. So, if you are sensitive to odors, please go Polysleep.

The cover of the Endy mattress has a nice look but it is not liquid repellant nor has the bottom been made of mesh. Adding mesh to the bottom of the cover will make the foam breath and by consequence will enhance its properties. We at Polysleep, think about every aspect of the mattress and we know that almost everyone enjoys breakfast in bed so we decided to make the cover liquid repellant because accidents happen!

WHO WON THE BATTLE?

After Analyzing the 3 Brands, we can definitely say that the Polysleep Mattress is a higher end product with better features at an affordable price. The quality of the 4 layers, the hybrid top foam, the extra supporting side rails, the liquid-repellant cover, and the 100% made in Canada make Polysleep a unique sleep experience.

    Hello Yerv,

We will do another comparison soon and we will add organic mattresses.

    Have a great day.

  • Y Yerv

You don’t mention off-gassing or the type of foam you use. Can you do a comparison with Essentia and organic matresses?
